Zafiroula Kavvadia

Zafiroula Kavvadia
I am Zefi Kavvadia, currently completing my undergraduate studies in School of English at Aristotle University and hopefully continuing with an MA in Cultural Studies the year after. I play role-playing games (RPGs) with a special fondness for creative writing RPGs and what really fascinates me is the world of popular culture. The “Urban Environments in Transition” project was especially relevant for me because I have always felt to be a “city child” and after all, cities, with their mingling words and ever-changing spaces, are exceptional producers of pop culture!

Blackout poetry

Belle ville ... sin patrón // ¼ìïñöç ðüëç ... ÷ùñßò áöåíôéêü

I wanted to work with blackout poetry in order to create an artefact out of other artefacts, following the postmodern tendency to negate 'sacred' originality and celebrate reproduction, repetition and reworking. I created a text out of articles coming from an upper middle-class (?) targeted newspaper and a blog. The background is made out of newspaper clippings, with newspapers capturing in my mind capture the glory and the frustration of urban life. It is as if the city is in love. To be in love means to roam around yourself and other(s) similar to your roaming the city. We must allow ourselves to be in love again, and again, and again. Love is revolutionary and poetry is riot, and it's time to get angry again!
